D&J’s Environmental focus.

D&J understands the history of the garment manufacturing industry in China and the negative impact on our only home planet our industry has had along with every other high intensity manufacturing system currently in use today. We also understand that change can only be driven by our customers and by their customers demands, be it either for unsustainable cheap throw away garments or more earth friendly products sustainably made and sourced. We can only do what the consumer is willing to pay for and the rise of the current leading cheap global fast fashion supplier clearly shows what the consumer wants, cheap.

As an industry leader how can we change the current practises if green washing is more important than actual change that costs the end consumer. If we tell the consumer what they should buy, then we will end our business as just another victim of misguided positive action.

The difficulties our industry currently faces can not be resolved by greenwashing and are a key focus for our teams moving forward.

What are we currently doing?

Manging what we can – our own environment.
  • Implementation of two ESG offices in Los Angeles and Mexico City.
  • Air curtains to reduce AC loss at all our facilities.
  • Situating our new office close to public transport.
  • Supplying staff accommodation close the our plants to reduce commute costs and pollution.
  • Suppling home cooked lunches and dinners in house across multiple sites with staff’s own utensils that they wash themselves, a practise that has been in place for over a decade eliminating the throw away of one-use plastics. Saving over 5.5 million plastic takeaways, lids, sauce PC containers and bags.
  • Returned items transported at our cost to Africa to be sold and used rather than put to land fill.
